WHY BUTTERFLY VALVES

Efficient Valve Solutions for Modern Piping

Butterfly valves are widely selected for applications where compact construction, quarter-turn operation and practical flow isolation are important.

01

Compact Construction

Butterfly valve designs can provide a compact solution compared with many larger valve configurations.

02

Quick Operation

Quarter-turn operation allows practical opening and closing for many isolation applications.

03

Multiple Configurations

Wafer, lugged and flanged configurations provide flexibility for different pipeline arrangements.

04

Flow Isolation

Suitable for industrial applications requiring reliable flow isolation.

05

Installation Flexibility

Different connection configurations support varied piping and installation requirements.

06

Industrial Applications

Suitable for a broad range of process, utility and industrial fluid-handling systems.

HOW BUTTERFLY VALVES WORK

Simple Quarter-Turn Flow Control

A butterfly valve uses a circular disc positioned inside the pipeline. The disc rotates around a stem to control the flow passage.

When the disc is positioned across the flow path, the valve moves toward the closed position. Rotating the disc away from the flow path opens the valve.

This quarter-turn operating principle makes butterfly valves suitable for many flow isolation applications.

01
Valve Closed The disc restricts the pipeline flow passage.
02
Quarter-Turn Operation The stem rotates the disc around its axis.
03
Flow Passage Opens The disc moves away from the primary flow path.
04
Flow Continues Process media passes through the valve.

VALVE SELECTION

Choose the Right Butterfly Valve for Your System

Valve Configuration Select between double flanged, high performance, wafer lugged and wafer type configurations.
Pipeline Connection Consider the piping connection and available installation arrangement.
Process Media Evaluate the fluid or gas and compatibility with valve construction and sealing materials.
Pressure & Temperature Select the appropriate valve based on actual operating conditions.
Flow Requirement Define whether the valve is required for isolation, regulation or both.
Operating Method Consider manual, gear-operated or automated operation requirements.
FAQ

Butterfly Valve Frequently Asked Questions

What is a butterfly valve?

A butterfly valve is a rotary valve that uses a disc positioned inside the pipeline to control or isolate fluid flow.

What are butterfly valves mainly used for?

Butterfly valves are commonly used for flow isolation and, depending on the design and application, flow control in industrial piping systems.

What types of butterfly valves does FMV offer?

FMV's current product range includes Double Flanged Butterfly Valves, High Performance Butterfly Valves, Wafer Lugged Butterfly Valves and Wafer Type Butterfly Valves.

What is the advantage of a wafer butterfly valve?

Wafer-style butterfly valves can provide a compact installation solution where the piping arrangement is suitable for this connection configuration.

How do I select the right butterfly valve?

Selection should consider valve configuration, pipeline connection, process media, pressure, temperature, flow requirements and operating method.
